What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It saves space but doesn't open on many Windows PCs, websites and older apps.

Why is the conversion slower than other tools?
Browsers other than Safari can't read HEIC natively, so the image is decoded with JavaScript. It usually takes a second or two per photo.
How do I stop my iPhone saving HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will then be saved as JPG.
